Runkelstein is a jewel among the castles of Tyrol. It’s on a rock, in front of the entrance of the “Sarntal”. There is a wonderful view on Bozen.
It was built by the brothers Friedrich and Beral von Wangen. In 1385 Nikolaus and Franz Vintler bought the castle. The family was very rich and they enlarged and embellished the castle. It was named “Picture Book Castle”. The frescoes show the world of the medieval knights.
